Trivia
Least goals scored, most conceded...and at the top!
Cameroon topped its group – which contained Argentina, USSR and Romania -in the 1990 World Cup in spite of scoring the joint least number of goals (3 – the same as Argentina) and conceding the most (5).

No top scorers for champions
It is one of the strange aberrations of the World Cup that the top scorer of the tournament has seldom emerged from the winning team. In sixteen World Cup tournaments so far, the top scorer has come from the victorious team on only four occasions - in 1934 (Schiavio for Italy with four goals), 1962 (Vava and Garrincha for Brazil with four goals each), 1978 (Mario Kempes for Argentina with six goals) and 1982 (Paolo Rossi for Italy with six goals).
